Rock School

Richard van Wijck is a classically-trained guitarist (Honours Bachelor of Music in Guitar Performance at Wilfrid Laurier University in Canada followed by postgraduate studies at the Conservatories of Maastricht and Amsterdam) with more than 25 years of experience in independent guitar instruction in the Brussels region. He embraces his passion for live music performance in a diverse range of genres at public events such as the Brussels Jazz Marathon and private shows with his rhythm and blues band.

Richard is delighted to offer private tuition in electric, acoustic and bass guitar to ACE students of all ages and abilities, as well as entry-level introduction to the drums.

An additional feature of Richard’s collaboration with ACE will be to launch the Rock School concept of ensemble-based musical activity with groups will be formed to put on a show. All (aspiring) musicians and music-lovers are welcome, whatever their level and experience! The live shows and jam sessions can also be recorded, so any budding sound technicians or volunteers for stage production and set design (and why not stylists, make-up artists etc…) would be especially welcome. Newcomers to the “industry” can be trained by Richard on-the-job.

On a more academic note, and espousing the concept that responding to and performing music may instil in young musicians a curiosity to learn more about how music is composed, theory lessons in a group context are also offered. Theory students wishing to further their knowledge may be prepared for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) theory examinations.
